Howdy! This is Brendan Sanders’ personal page showcasing his photography, videography, graphic design and journalism abilities.
Brendan Sanders is a journalist and photographer based in Mid-Michigan. He works primarily as a digital reporter for the Hearst Community Newspaper division, with his journalism published in the Big Rapids Pioneer, Midland Daily News, Manistee News Advocate, and Huron Daily Tribune. He also provides articles for newspaper organizations in Illinois and Texas.
Sanders graduated from Ferris State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication with minors in Marketing/Sales and Multimedia Journalism. He worked for three years with the Ferris State Torch, working his way up from a sports reporter to Editor-in-Chief by his senior year.
By a pure stroke of luck, Sanders didn’t have to go far to open up his career. As he was graduating from Ferris State University, a job as a journalist for the Big Rapids Pioneer opened up. There he was hired to cover both news and sports in Mecosta, Osceola and Lake Counties. He worked alongside Michigan Sports Journalist legend John Raffel for the first two years of his career, publishing five sports stories a week alongside five news stories a week.
From there, he was promoted to digital reporter for the HCN in 2024, leading the division in weather coverage and expanding to other stories, including state legislature coverage. In 2025, he led Hearst Community Newspapers in overall pageviews, topping a list of more than 70 journalists across the company. He is on pace to repeat this success in 2026.
While this move to the digital reporter role was fruitful in terms of content success, Sanders loves sports and loves telling stories any way possible. Over the years, he realized how fun it was to tell stories through video content and photography. His desire to keep “shining his little spotlight” led him to create his social media pages and the website you are reading right now. Does he know where this will go? Nope. But he will always look forward to helping out any way he can.
